What is the lowest MOQ for private label pet products?
500 pieces per SKU for hard goods such as bowls, water dispensers, litter boxes, carriers and grooming tools. 300 pieces for bird and aquarium accessories, where tooling is lighter.
The number that actually matters is the total across the order. Because mixed-SKU cartons are accepted, 500 pieces per SKU does not mean 500 pieces of one product — it means the minimum applies per reference, and the carton can hold several.
Do I have to pay for tooling on a first order?
No. Existing catalogue references use tooling already in place. The mould amortisation charge applies only when you request a design that does not exist, and it is waived above 5,000 pieces. Artwork setup is a separate one-off charge and is credited against a repeat order if the artwork does not change.
What does a first order typically cost?
Below 2,000 pieces the order value stays modest; the real risk is a specification that has to be redone, not the unit price. Pre-production samples are charged at cost and credited against the first production order.
Can I order one product or do I need a range?
One product is fine. A range is cheaper per unit because the shipping and setup cost spreads across more pieces, and it is how most buyers find out which references actually sell before committing volume.
